During my first week at Kuda, the designer in charge of one of our products quit the same week, so my Design Lead assigned me to pick up where she left off. I'll be honest, I was a little puzzled because I had to go through a lot of screens and documentation to grasp how the product works and both the features that were presently being developed and pending features that I will manage. I was able to spend my time understanding the designs and experience to ensure that I would not ruin the present design and that I designed based on the needs of our users.
After a few months of managing the Open API product, I joined the Kuda retail app and growth team to assist in the development of our app and product. I was tasked with developing new ideas and concepts for our Global app, as well as working on scalable and useful features and redesigns. I also built dark mode, prototypes, and web designs/Dashboards for each feature.
Scheduled payments is an addition to Kudas existing payment structure. Users may now manage their payments by paying later in the future, editing, pausing, and cancelling a payment with this functionality. I assigned this project.
The gift card feature was one of the very first projects I worked on. Before the implementation of this feature, Nigerians found it difficult to buy things from other countries because of the heavy restrictions from our Central Bank. I was glad I worked on this feature because over 4 million Nigerians were able to make purchase easily and from their favourite products.
After the design of light mode, I also worked on the dark mode version of each features I handled on our Global App
I worked on the redesign of the existing dashboard, engaging with the open API team to create new design flows and conduct research to ensure that our users have the best possible experience.
I lead the creative direction and design of the Open API tool. I worked alongside a product manager, Backend and front end developers and Quality assurance personal in making sure the product was successful. Open API, one of Kuda sub product is a collection of API services built for businesses that would like to add financial services to their offerings. The Open API is built on Kuda payment rails, enabling businesses to make transfers, open virtual accounts and check balances.
I worked collaboratively with all the designers at Kuda, I worked with several product managers on the different features we were launching. I was also able to communicate my design ideas confidently and also get constructive criticism on ways the experience of some designs can be better.
I was able to explore various design style and implementations. From designing mobile apps for iOs, to converting each screens to dark mode and then prototyping these flows perfectly and making android versions for these screens and finally designing web and mobile screen optimisation. All these improved my creativity as a designer.
kuda is a company with over 4 million customers in Nigeria so designing a product that caters for so many customers has to come with perfection and precision and that was one of the major thing I learnt at Kuda with my designs.
